Hike and Bike Park City

Are you someone that loves the outdoors? Are you one of those keen enthusiasts that love the rush of fresh air and a beautiful scenic view around you as you hike or bike? Then you should consider Park City as a summer destination for hiking and biking. This small unique town in Utah has become famous its scenic hiking and biking trails. So head on down this summer and get your boots and bikes in gear for a great and fun summer!

Hiking

Park City’s ski areas have trails which are opened to hikers in the summer months. All you need is a map for directions and you can set out on your hiking travels. Areas such as Deer Valley, Park City Mountain, and The Canyons all offer lift-assisted hiking up to the high country for tourists coming to the city for the first time. This service offers you the comfort of an ascent that won’t have you gasping for your breath (see the links above for more information). From downtown Park City you can follow the trail signs to the slopes. There are well-marked trails that begin on the edge of Park City town and head uphill in the valleys. Park City Trails provides more information on hiking possibilities in the area while also giving you the opportunity to take a walking tour of Park City, allowing you to also experience and take in the history of this unique town.

As you hike around, you’ll find lots of evidence of Park City’s mining past as well; you may come across miners' cabins and old mine shafts. Some of these are in decay so be careful if you go off the marked trails. Hikers should take note of the No Trespassing near many of the mining shafts. Respect these boundaries and you’ll have a great hike to remember!

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is a favorite summer activity in the Park City area. The city’s more than 350 miles of mountain bike trails has made it an attractive destination for many mountain biking enthusiasts, especially for those coming from the larger American cities. The city has some unique mountain bike trails where some of the landowners, including ski resorts and mining companies, have offered access to their land for these trails. Make sure you have your helmet on when you are riding – the terrain can be steep and fast (a helmet has saved me a few times).

Park City’s three resorts offer lift access that is open for visiting bikers as well during the summer. Deer Valley has 55 stunning miles of single- and double-track biking trails; Park City Mountain has 35 miles of trails. The Canyons also offers mountain bikers gondola rides to the top of its lifts from which many different and unique trails can be tried.
